Staff Sarah McGraw, PhD A medical anthropologist, Dr. McGraw has 20 years of research and evaluation experience on a broad range of health topics. Her work has focused on health promotion, disease prevention, health services and qualitative research methods. She received a BA from McGill University and her PhD from the University of Connecticut. Underlying all of Sarah’s work is an interest in health and access to quality care among minority and disenfranchised populations. She has developed and evaluated programs in a range of settings from communities, to schools, to health service and social services organizations, often with a focus on minority adolescents. She also developed and evaluated a variety of media programs on smoking, alcohol use and HIV/AIDS prevention for adolescents as well as a video on treatment decisions for older women with breast cancer. She received awards for her media work from the National Educational Media Competition and the Partnership for Networked Consumer Health Information. Most recently she has focused on cultural and gender differences in how individuals with urologic symptoms seek help for their conditions, and has been evaluating a supported housing program in 11 areas across the country for the chronically homeless with multiple physical and mental disabilities.
